Where the craps tables are in Indiana
Northwest Indiana holds the biggest cluster, four casinos along the Lake Michigan shore and the Chicago edge. Horseshoe Hammond, Ameristar East Chicago, Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana in Gary and Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City all list craps. Four Winds South Bend adds a fifth table in the north, about an hour to the east.
The Ohio River carries the second belt. Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg sits just west of Cincinnati, Rising Star is in Rising Sun a little downstream and Belterra Casino Resort is in Florence. Further west, Caesars Southern Indiana in Elizabeth serves the Louisville area, and Bally’s Evansville sits on the riverfront in the state’s southwest corner.
Central Indiana has two racetrack casinos with craps. Harrah’s Hoosier Park is in Anderson, northeast of Indianapolis, and Horseshoe Indianapolis is in Shelbyville, southeast of the city. French Lick Resort & Casino sits in the southern hills, and Terre Haute Casino Resort covers the west side of the state near the Illinois line.
Driving distances in practice
Most of Indiana lives within a two-hour drive of a craps table. From downtown Indianapolis, Shelbyville is the closest and Anderson is not far behind. Chicago players reach Hammond or East Chicago in under an hour on a clear day, and Cincinnati players cross the state line to Lawrenceburg in about half an hour.
Casinos with craps in Indiana: the biggest rooms
Floor size and pit size are not the same thing, but the large resorts are the likeliest places to find more than one craps table open on a weekend evening. In Indiana that points to Horseshoe Hammond, Hard Rock Northern Indiana, Horseshoe Indianapolis, Caesars Southern Indiana and Belterra, each a full resort with hotel rooms.
Caesars Entertainment runs Horseshoe Hammond, Horseshoe Indianapolis and Harrah’s Hoosier Park, so a Caesars Rewards card works at three Indiana craps tables. Boyd Gaming operates Belterra and Blue Chip, PENN Entertainment runs Hollywood Lawrenceburg and Ameristar East Chicago, and Hard Rock runs the Gary casino. French Lick, Rising Star and Terre Haute are independent names.

Indiana craps: real dice at every table
All 14 casinos in our directory deal craps with dice. That is the classic game from our how to play guide, with a come-out roll, a point, a puck and a stickman calling the numbers. Nothing about the layout changes at the state line, so a player from Chicago, Louisville or Cincinnati will know every box on the felt.
No Indiana casino in our directory publishes crapless craps, card craps or an all-electronic version, so the other craps variants are a trip out of state. The game you find here is the one that has been dealt on American riverboats and in Las Vegas pits for generations. For most players that is exactly what they came for.
Four Winds South Bend is the one room that lists side bets. Its table carries Bonus Craps and a progressive called Bonus Spin Xtreme. Both pay large amounts on rare outcomes and carry far higher house edges than the line, so read our notes on craps side bets before you drop a chip in either box.
The bet that should carry your money
A pass line bet wins 244 of every 495 decisions and costs 1.41% of what you bet on it over time. Take odds behind it once the point is set and the combined edge falls to 0.37% at a 3-4-5x limit. Nothing else on an Indiana layout comes close, and the center of the table costs far more.
Table minimums and odds in Indiana
None of the 14 casinos in our directory publishes a craps table minimum or an odds limit that we could confirm in its own listings. That is normal in the Midwest, where limits move with the day and the crowd. Weeknight afternoons tend to run cheaper than Saturday nights, and a big event at a resort can raise the floor.
Ask about the odds limit when you call, not only the minimum. At 5x odds the combined house edge on a pass line bet drops to 0.33%, and at 10x it drops to 0.18%. The higher the limit, the more of your money sits on a bet with no edge at all, which makes the same bankroll last longer.
Is craps legal in Indiana?
Yes. Craps in Indiana is legal at every licensed casino, and the Indiana Gaming Commission oversees the commercial ones, including their table games and the revenue each one reports. Thirteen of the 14 casinos in our directory are commercial. Indiana first licensed casinos as riverboats in the 1990s, which is why so many sit on water.
The state has since let most of those boats move onto land, and two racetracks, Harrah’s Hoosier Park and Horseshoe Indianapolis, deal live table games alongside racing. The rules for a craps player did not change with the buildings. You need to be 21, and the house edge on each bet stays where the math puts it.
Four Winds South Bend is the exception. It belongs to the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians and operates under federal law with the tribe’s own gaming regulators rather than a state license. On the felt nothing looks different: real dice, a standard layout and the same pass line payout you would get in Hammond.
Online craps in Indiana
Real-money online craps is not licensed in Indiana. The state allows online sports betting, but internet casino games, craps included, remain off limits, and any site offering real-money craps there operates outside the law. Indiana is not among the seven states licensing online casinos, led by New Jersey, Michigan, Pennsylvania and West Virginia, for players inside those states.
Michigan is the closest of the four for many Hoosiers. South Bend and Michigan City sit a short drive from the state line, and a licensed Michigan app works once you are physically across it. At home, our free craps table runs standard rules with play chips, which is the legal way to practice in Indiana.
Tips for a craps trip in Indiana
Pick a corner of the state and plan around it. The northwest lets you try Hammond, East Chicago and Gary in one evening, and the Ohio River road links Lawrenceburg, Rising Sun and Florence in under an hour. Our casino directory shows every listed room, and the state guide compares Indiana with its neighbors.
Call before you drive. Smaller rooms may open craps only on busy nights, and resort events can fill a table fast. The casino’s own website and phone line are the only sources worth trusting on hours, limits and odds. A directory tells you where the game is dealt; the pit tells you what it costs tonight.
Keep your chips on the line. The pass line and come bets with odds are the cheapest wagers in the casino. A $5 Any Seven bet pays $20 when it hits and costs 16.67% of every wager over time, more than ten times what the line costs, and the hardways are not much kinder.
Playing responsibly
Set a budget before you arrive and keep it apart from money for the drive home. Indiana runs a voluntary exclusion program through the Indiana Gaming Commission, and confidential help is available at any hour through 1-800-GAMBLER. Our responsible gambling page covers the warning signs and the tools that help you stay in control.
One last detail catches visitors every year: Indiana runs on two time zones. Most of the state keeps Eastern time, but the northwest corner around Hammond, East Chicago and Gary and the Evansville area in the southwest keep Central time. If a friend is holding a spot at the rail for you, agree on whose clock you mean.
